The word REMONTOIR is French word for ‘stem-wind’. The inscription on the watches ( ‘REMONTOIR’ / Ancre Ligne Droite / 15 Rubis’), means ‘Stem-wound - Straight Line Lever - 15 rubies [i.e. jewels]’. These watches were mass produced and no maker's name was usually marked on them. However, it can be seen from the photos below, that there was obviously one, or possibly two, makers using the 'Remontoir' label almost as a tradename. We do not know yet who they were. This watch is marked inside 'Remontoir cylindre & rubis'. Not sure what the face is made of Porcelain?. Marks inside are 63077 serial #? 800 argent in oval mark (the silver mark) a half moon and crown with cross on top, think this might be a German mark from 1888 the last mark is an angel head and large wings.
